Miso soup is Japanese traditional soup consisting of miso and dashi. It is an essential dish for a typical Japanese dining table, and what many people have every single day. But they never get bored of miso soup, because you can put your favorites as ingredients! And that variety of types in ingredients is a great characteristic of miso soup.

Ingredients (2 servings):

  • Water 400cc

  • 2 tablespoons miso

  • 1 potato

  • ½ onion

  • 2g of dashi

Preparation:

Slice onion, peel potato and cut it into bite size pieces.

Steps:

1. Put water, onion and potato in a pot and simmer on medium heat until the ingredients are cooked through.

2. When they become tender, add dashi and simmer for another several minutes.

3. Turn the heat off and blend miso into soup.

4. When miso is blended completely, turn on the peat again on medium low heat until the soup gets warm. Be careful not to boil the soup.

5. Ready to serve!

Note:

This recipe uses potatoes and onions as the ingredients, but it’s best to use whatever ingredients you like. The most common ones in Japan are tofu, wakame seaweed, Japanese white radish, etc.
