Tamagoyaki is like a Japanese omelette made with soy sauce. It means a fried egg if translated literally, but it is not just a fried egg. What it actually is a dish in which several thin layers of egg are rolled together. They are often cooked with a rectangular frying pan, but can also be cooked easily with a normal round one.
Ingredients (2 servings):
2 eggs
1 tablespoon sugar
½ teaspoon soy sauce
Cooking oil as needed
Steps:
1. Crack eggs into a bowl, add sugar and soy sauce and mix them without making bubbles
2. Put oil in a frying pan, and heat on medium heat. Wipe off excess oil with a paper towel if necessary.
3. When it’s hot enough, pour half the mixed eggs into the pan to make a thin egg layer and wait until it hardens a little (don’t let it be too watery).
4. Fold the 2 opposite sides of a layer inward a few centimeters, then roll it from the back to the front.
5. A layer becomes a rectangular roll, so put it on the back of the pan and pour the other half of the mixed eggs.
6. Repeat steps 3 and 4. This time, roll what is made before together so there will be a bigger roll of eggs.
7. Turn off the heat, and cut an egg roll into bite size pieces.
9. Ready to serve!
Note:
・If using a relatively small frying pan, it is a good idea to add mixed eggs in 3 parts.
・For those who are afraid of burning eggs, it may be better to heat eggs on medium low heat (but be careful as the eggs will not be cooked if it is too low).
